When it comes to learning, I often see that people are afraid of making mistakes. This fear prevents people from being creative and playful. As a teacher, I want to give everyone the freedom of knowing that you can make mistakes, you can mess up, and you can play like a child, even as an adult. When I was learning to play the piano, I was often very afraid of making mistakes, but this has manifested itself in other areas of my life. It was as if I didn't have the right to make mistakes - I didn't have the right to be human... It would have been nice to have had a teacher who would have taught me that I was free to be human, free to make mistakes, and that the world would not fall apart, and that no one would be angry with me if I accidentally messed up a chord. I had to learn this on my own, by somehow "rewiring" the thoughts and feelings that were turning on in my brain.
As a teacher, my goal is to pass on this inner freedom to my students! Not all of my students want to be professional musicians, but the joy of making music and the inner freedom to make mistakes is something that fulfills anyone! My music is about endless freedom and experimentation. I help everyone find their own sound, their own voice - to be able to sit down at the piano and play something that they have never played before, that they feel and hear in that moment, and then be able to transmit it through the keys of the piano.
